A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to join Suzy Welch on the Becoming You podcast with my client, Cassie Crist.
Cassie and I met at a networking event in Chicago. We connected immediately. Later she reached out because, like many successful women, she knew something wasn’t quite right.
Nothing was wrong, exactly.
She had spent more than 20 years building a successful career as a CPA. She had become a partner. She had earned respect. She had done all the things she set out to do. But she felt stuck.
Honestly, I see this all the time.
Women come to me and say things like:
- “I should be happy.”
- “I’ve worked so hard to get here.”
- “I don’t understand why this doesn’t feel right anymore.”
And what I’ve learned is that most of the time, they’re not stuck. They’ve changed.
One of the first questions I asked Cassie was:
“If you could flip a switch today, what would you want?”
Not what was practical.
Not what everybody expected.
What did she want?
That question opened a door.
Over the next several months, we explored her values, strengths, interests, and what was really important to her. Through the Becoming You process, she started to see possibilities she hadn’t allowed herself to consider before.
Today she’s leaving a 20+ year CPA career to purchase a cooking and event business in Chicago.
If you had told her a year ago that she’d be doing this, she probably would have laughed.
But watching her come alive as she talks about the future has been one of the greatest joys of my coaching career.
During the podcast, Suzy asked me what I love most about coaching.
My answer was easy:)
I love seeing somebody come out of a messy situation and light up like a light bulb as they get on the path they were always supposed to be on.
That’s it.
That’s why I do this work.
I’ve experienced reinvention in my own life too. Divorce. Single motherhood. Starting over professionally. Falling in love again. Leaving corporate America. Building a business that matters.
None of those decisions were easy.
But every one of them started with a conversation and a willingness to ask:
“What if?”
So if you’ve been feeling restless lately, maybe don’t rush to fix it.
Get curious about it.
Maybe you’re not stuck. Maybe you’ve simply outgrown your current chapter.
And maybe your next chapter is waiting for you to say yes.
If you’d like to hear the full conversation with Suzy, Cassie, and me, you can listen to the podcast here.
I’d love to hear what resonated with you.
